Who will benefit from this course?

Any gardener who works in the domestic, commercial or landscaping environment.

Course Content

This course is designed for the domestic gardener and instruction is given in isiZulu with some contribution in English from myself. A set of notes in isiZulu (for the student) and English (for the employer or a non-isiZulu speaking student) are handed out at each session.

The course covers the following :

Theory :
  • Soils - soil analysis, composition, repair and maintenance
  • Making and using compost and mulch;
  • Understanding and using fertilisers (organic and inorganic);
  • Tools and their care;
  • Pruning;
  • Lawn establishment and care;

Practical :

  • At each course we strip, prepare, design and plant a different section of garden, utilising every aspect of the theory they have just learnt and so that the trainers can assess the skill of the student. We also have a nursery at our disposal where the students discuss the form of plants, their use in the decorative sense as well as their medicinal uses. Each participant in this course is presented with a beautiful Certificate of Attendance.
 Benefits

The students are energised and inspired on this course. Employers always comment on the marked difference of their gardener’s behaviour once he returns to work after attending this course. The students also interact with other likeminded gardeners and they get to share their frustrations and problems with their work in a regulated environment.

How do I register?

The application form can be accessed via the link at the top of this page or by requesting one from our office.

“Thulani attended your gardener's course on Friday and came back really inspired and full of confidence which is wonderful.  I have read through the notes and am delighted with what he has been taught.  I have another staff member who will benefit from this course, so please put his name down for the next one.”
